Identity theft

 found out this week, that I am a victim of Identity theft.  I found out that someone in Sweethome Oregon, has been using my Social security number.  Isn't that crazy?  I am not able to do a whole lot right now, where my social security number is concerned, because of it.  I was told that I couldn't join a bank account, because my name doesn't match the name of the person using the number.  So...I have been on the phone with the federal trade commision, the credit burreau, and I was informed that I will have to file a police report.  How this person got a hold of my number, I don't know.  Have any of you had this happen before?  I am just shocked that it happened to me.  I have no idea where they could have gotten a hold of it.  What a mess!!  I am hoping that this person hasn't caused too much damage to our credit, and any thing else that could be damaged because of it.  UGH!
