Why I homeschool

My husband and I decided when we got married 8 years ago, that 2 words wouldn't even be in our vocabulary.  Divorce, and public school.  God has blessed me with 4 beautiful children, and He has given them to ME to raise, and teach, and lead them to the Lord.  My husband and I were given stewardship over our children.  For me, I would never want to ship my children off to a public school, and allow some stranger to raise and teach my children.  A stranger can never love and teach my children like I can.  Public school is a worldly place, with worldly ideas, and it's a place that is rapidly turning it's back on God, and totally removing Him in any way possible.  As a Christian mom, learning about God is part of life.  My children need to know God.  God had given me my own mission field that I am emmersed in 24/7!

I am in my first year of daily homeschooling my children.  My oldest is 7.  So far we have used alot of AOP lifepacs, Math-U-See, and some SOS.  I love the fact that the lifepacs are all laid out in front of me,and easy to use.  It has been good too for my 7year old, cause he can see exactly where he is at.  For instance, he is on lifepac 8 in language arts, and I tell him he is almost done with the first grade, cause there are 10 lifepacs.  He also knows that when he gets to the second grade, we will take him out to his favorite restaraunt to celebrate.  I have been using the Math lifepacs, but I am not too crazy about them.  I am still on the look out for other math curriculums that may fit us better.  For my daughter's math,  we have used AOP's Horizons.  That has been good, but I have had to implement some math U see techniques into it to get her to understand the concepts. Something else that I have also used to teach them how to read, is frontline phonics.  I really like their program, except for the fact that it is secular, and they do use Ghost for G, and Witch for W (which is just dumb).  I have had to adapt to that, by taping on a picture of my son Gabe for G, and we just call the Witch "Wierd Wanda" instead of even bringing up that it's supposed to be a witch.  Right now, my 4 and 6 year olds are really close to the same level of reading which is just awesome!  I have been asked if I ever had a desire to go out and get a job, or persue a career.  I have also been asked if I had ever thought about pursuing a teaching career (haha!  I am a teacher!).  There is no other job in the whole world that could possibly give me the kind of satisfaction that I get when I see my children's faces light up because they finally read their first book by themselves.  To have them remind us to pray when we forget to before dinner or bedtime.  To see them love each other and be each others best friends.  To see these little monkies grow up everyday, and catch each little milestone they make.  That is the best profession out there. What more could a mommy ask for!!
