A Whole New Perspective

How many of us stay at home moms get so focused on our own tasks and jobs as mothers, that we fail to think about the work that our husbands are doing day in and day out?  I am guilty of just that.

My husband goes to work at the same time everyday, and comes home at the same time everyday.  I hear stories about his job every now and then, but have never gave it a whole lot of thought.  Until I got to see what he does close up.    I have gained a WHOLE new perspective and respect for my husband's job.  It's nasty, but it is a necessary job that no body really gives thought to.   Without this kind of work, the infrastructure of the city would fall apart.

I will warn you, if you get queezy easily, this may make your stomach turn.  This job is not for the faint of heart!

img00079-20090504-1927 So here is my hubby, sticking a long metal pole in a hole.  But this is no ordinary hole.  Everything flows into this hole.   Anything that goes down your sink, bathtub, and yes toilet, flows to this hole.

There is also some very scary, very stinky machines down below called Muffin Monsters.  They grind up the solid materials into small pieces.  img00080-20090504-1929

My husband is the one who has to make sure that these Muffin Monsters are in working order.  He is also the one who gets to floss their teeth when it's time to clean them.

I never knew just how disgusting, yet how necessary my husband's job was.  I heard that it stinks (literally), and heard that it could be dangerous.  I just had no idea how true that was.  You gotta have a strong stomach to do his job.  It was hard for me when I was taking these pictures!  I always thought I had a pretty strong stomach too.  I was wrong.

So after visiting my husband's place of employment, I realized that a poopy diaper is NOTHING compared to this.  I'll take a dirty diaper any day!

I am so thankful that my husband has such a secure job especially during such hard economic times.  I am thankful that he is willing to do this nasty job in order to provide for his family's needs.  It takes a special man to be able to run a sewer treatment plant.  I am blessed to have him.

  1. Informative post and great pictures! I don't normally think about all that happens to our "waste" but it's obviously a necessary and important job that your husband does. So wonderful to see your support for him!

  2. I too am thankful for my husband's job during these tough times. He is an electrician at Kimberly Clark and that too is fairly secure. We all use toilet paper and huggies don't we?!! I haven't found the trick to making the kombucha taste better. I cannot stand it either but my dh and some of the kids love it. I juice as well and I tried adding it to some of that and that is about the closest I have come to being able to tolerate it:) I use Body Ecology or Kefir Soda to start my lemonade. You can find the Body Ecology grains online if you can't find them in a REALLY good health food store. No, the ones for the milk won't work. Normally that is just for dairy. I am assuming you have the ones that come in the little blue box with the picture of milk on it. Not sure where you live but here in WI I have some homeschool friends who own and run an organic store and the grains are cheaper from them then they are online. Like 5.00 cheaper.
