Sewing Sewing and more sewing

I almost have my 2nd dress done.  All I have left do is finish hand stitching the black decoration around the hem.  I really need to have Adam take pictures of me modeling my dresses.  This green dress has turned out better than my brown one.  Probably because I know more about how it all goes together.

Today I tried to sew Ethan a shirt. ACK!  That placket thingy has got my really confused.  Does anyone know any good tips on sewing a shirt placket?   I sewed it on, and it's all lumpy and full of tucks.

This last weekend, Adam and I had our first experience trying to make blueberry jam.  We spent the day gathering the things we would need to can, and then went out and picked blueberries at a local farm.  With six of us picking the bowls filled up real quick.  We ended up with 10 pounds of blueberries.  The next day we made the jam.  It turned out a little runny, but it sure tastes good!  Maybe that is because of the 5 cups of sugar that the recipe calls for.    That shocked me a bit when I saw that one batch of jam needs 5 cups of sugar.

Next week the kids and I are heading over to some friends' house to make and can applesauce.  I want to learn how to can all sorts of things.  I'd love to have canned sauces, fruit, pie fillings, and veggies.   My mom gave me a pressure canner a long time ago, but I have been afraid to use it.  Aren't those things dangerous to use?  Or CAN be dangerous?  I have no idea how to use it.   But I do know that I want canned green beans!  And that (from what I hear) requires a pressure canner.

We have only homeschooled once so far this week.  I just haven't been motivated, and the kids aren't motivated.  I hate it when I get in this sort of rut....but we are going to have to snap out of it soon.

I have about 5 blog templates in progress once again.  The last one I did turned out SO good...I think it's one of my favorites now!  I have a snap shot of it on my website, and a link to it too.   The retro look is very cute.  I might have to go with that theme sometime soon!
